On Monday Feburary 13, 2012 we will be hosting Zanesville artist Michael Seiler. Michael has been involved in the arts professionally for over 30 years in various forms.
He attended The Ohio State University and studied Painting, Drawing, Graphics, and
Cinematography. He received both his BFA and MFA there. He has taught at The Ohio State University, Ohio
Dominican College (University), Muskingum College (University), and
Cambridge High School. Early in his career he was involved in what would become Vineyard Columbus.
Michael has worked in various media over the years which include: photography,
ceramics, steel, oils, watercolor, acrylics and anything that would
make a mark.
At this time Michael is working in oil paints, alkyd, and asphalt. He says of his work, "I
attempt to speak to the spirit and time of my world. As the scripture
says, 'the Spirit intercedes for us in groaning too deep to be
uttered.' I utter my groaning on canvas, expressing my experiences
with failure and redemption, solitude and intimacy and the pleasure
and pain of relationships. Painting begins in semi automatic fashion
and progresses to deliberate form."
He will be sharing about his work in the world of fine art; as well as his insights on art education, running a studio and gallery, his involvement in the art community, and the way his faith in Jesus plays out in his day-to-day life and art.
