Thriving Arts

In 2013, God is doing some new things. We have spent the last year preparing our hearts for the changes that God will bring about through us, the artists.

Growing Hearts

Join us in February and March as we begin to engage our hearts and creative process in the new year. We will uphold the standard format we have been for the last year or so, but will add a time for a motivational talk with participation by the group. This will lay the groundwork for the change coming in April. We will be shifting to a workshop environment. More details to come on that. Bring your art and your hearts as we seek God for what He is going to do in 2013.

Creative Value

Thrive:

Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Luke 12:7

The truth in this passage is so simple, but unbelievably easy to overlook.

When we are called to do something that can cause great strife for us, our Lord, Jesus reminds us of our worth to Him. In His wisdom He sets forth a plan save as many lives as He can. He calls us to play a part, though it may be dangerous and hard.

Jesus gives us the gift of assurance. Knowing that we are immeasurably important to the God of the universe is assurance that we please Him. It is assurance that we will be able to do the task that we are called to do. And in this confidence we are gifted with, we move forward into the place we are called to serve. We don't start there, but must grow into it. His grace is sufficient for us, because we are so deeply valued by Him.

Take this as a call to action. This assurance provides us with the opportunity to move out into the goals that we have before us. What will you do with them now that you know your value?

Grow:

Sometimes it is difficult to believe that our goals have value or that even the small tasks we are required to do have real weight. Yes, in fact it all matters. Lack of emphasis does not mean that it lacks value. Don't get caught up in judging your circumstances.

There are no shortages of resources out there that will give you pointers on how to achieve your goals, but I want to boil it down here so that you have the thirst to go out and find more.

Meet Your Goals:

1. Ask yourself what you want to accomplish.
2. Write it down and put it somewhere where you will see it often.
3. Take a small step each day.
4. Know that if you have committed yourself to Christ and He has told you to do something that He will be your strength when it gets rough.
5. Frequently, revisit your goal and measure your accomplishments.
6. Tweak as necessary.
7. Don't give up, never give up.
8. Repeat with each new goal.

VISITING ARTIST: MICHAEL SEILER 2/13/12 & OTHER IMPORTANT DATES

MichaelSeilerStudios.com

On  Monday Feburary 13, 2012 we will be hosting Zanesville artist Michael Seiler. Michael has been involved in the arts professionally for over 30 years in various forms.

He attended The Ohio State University and studied Painting, Drawing, Graphics, and Cinematography.  He received both his BFA and MFA there. He has taught at The Ohio State University, Ohio Dominican College (University), Muskingum College (University), and Cambridge High School. Early in his career he was involved in what would become Vineyard Columbus.

Michael has worked in various media over the years which include: photography, ceramics, steel, oils, watercolor, acrylics and anything that would make a mark.

At this time Michael is working in oil paints, alkyd, and asphalt. He says of his work, "I attempt to speak to the spirit and time of my world. As the scripture says, 'the Spirit intercedes for us in groaning too deep to be uttered.' I utter my groaning on canvas, expressing my experiences with failure and redemption, solitude and intimacy and the pleasure and pain of relationships. Painting begins in semi automatic fashion and progresses to deliberate form."

He will be sharing about his work in the world of fine art; as well as his  insights on art education, running a studio and gallery, his involvement in the art community, and the way his faith in Jesus plays out in his day-to-day life and art.

Join us at 7:30 pm in the Vineyard Community Center,  Room 212 -6000 Cooper Rd. Westerville, OH.
